Comments: National ID Cards and the Future

What protects our privacy is the same now as it always has been - that nobody cares all that much about our activities. No matter how hard celebrities work to keep people from spying on them, their activities are largely able to become known. In contrast, most people live relatively anonymous existences, just because they're not all that important.

The sheer volume of information each person could potentially generate each day is huge. It's doubtful that the info will ever be accessed by anyone who hasn't a legitimate interest in knowing it.

Most privacy laws are a waste of paper. We freely give up the information to get credit, health care coverage, a job, and even a chance at a raffle prize. If you don't want anyone to know what you're up to, go off the grid, pay cash, and essentially drop out of modern society.
