Comments: Uptown/Garden District/CBD Message Board

We live in Atlanta, but my son lives in the Uptown area and is an intern a Tulane Medical Center. The last we heard from him was 6:00a.m. today and he said they were going to be evacuating the hospital. Does anyone know what is going on with that? Also, it sounds like the Uptown area faired pretty well. Hopefully, that's still true. Thanks for any information you may have.

My mother's staying in a condo building at Prytania and Jackson, and as of about half an hour ago (call it 1:00 CDT) it was dry, lots of trees down, debris, etc. Apparently quite a few people out and about in the area, but she told me someone had told her that there were broken windows at a Walgreens near there, so some looting.

We've heard that the area around Prytania and Jackson is still dry... Looking specifically for info on 3rd and Constance ( Parasol's) and the status of most of Magazine.. I work near the corner of Octavia and Magazine.

I am in Atlanta, but my friend who lives across the street from Parasols evacuated and has not heard anything about his place, he is assuming it is underwater.

That's not a safe assumption. Parasols is closer to the river than the area I know about. That generally means uphill. And from what I've heard, most of the area from there to Carrolton is clear, and down town isn't so great, but fine to at least Poydras (this is hours ago, so that end of things could be different with the rising water.

Any news about the area around St. Mary and Prytania, my house is on St. Mary....it would seem from some of the above postings that the flooding has not been that bad? For some helicopter video of NO, although not uptown, check out http://nebe-b.org/wgno26flyover.asx

I'm wondering about the area around Newman High School. My house is on Loyola Ave near Soniat. Any word of major damage? I'm also wondering about Jackson Ave near Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Thanks in advance - we can rebuild it!
